Memphis Americans tap local talent for broadcasts
SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – The Memphis Americans today announced the two-person team who will broadcast all home matches airing on YouTube during the inaugural season set to begin Dec. 26. Seasoned broadcast veterans Jeff Brightwell and Tim Van Horn will host a pregame discussion, in-game color and play-by-play commentary, and a post-game recap show featuring interviews with Coach Corey Adamson and key players.
Since 2003, Jeff Brightwell has been a part of the University of Memphis’ broadcast team as commentator for the men’s and women’s soccer teams. Over the years, the native Memphian has called a variety of sporting events for ESPN and CBS, as well, and serves as an announcer for the CrossFit Games annually. He also covers news and sports every weekday morning for News Talk 98.9 FM.
Lifelong Memphian Tim Van Horn has led Memphis 901 FC’s television broadcasts since the team was founded in 2018. He also contributes to University of Memphis Men's & Women's Soccer broadcasts on occasion. Landers Center visitors may remember Van Horn as the public address announcer for the late Mississippi RiverKings hockey team that played at the arena from 2000-2018. He is currently the morning drive host for The Mighty 990 AM & 107.9 FM.
“Bringing on two professionals who have such impressive resumes is going to take our broadcasts to the next level,” said Andrew Haines, Memphis Americans co-owner and president. “These two men know a great deal about the sport but have the ability to articulate what’s happening in a way that allows the novice to understand exactly what’s happening, too. That’s always the goal – make the broadcast enjoyable for those who know it all and those new to the game.”
Season tickets for the Memphis Americans inaugural season are on sale now at www.memphisamericans.com. Single game tickets will be available Dec. 3. Each ticket includes access to all men’s and women’s matches set to begin in late December.
